to my knowledge, there was nothing controversial, or nefarious about the bar closing. Just that it came out of the blue, I'm unaware if they did any announcement and swan song goodbye. As it was relayed to me, it was unexpected.

I have to walk a delicate line here, as there are some staunch defenders of that place that will rush to attack me if I'm too critical.

There is nothing wrong with Shoal Creek - nothing at all. I, personally dont enjoy the place. I dont like the TV's, I dont like the room(s), and I dont like the lack of parking. But, that's just me, all in all, there's nothing "wrong" with Shoal Creek.
