re: Obamacare: if you are between 18-34, it is cheaper to NOT enroll

People told me I was crazy when I said this would be the case.

Stupid kids with no insurance. They're being referred to as the invincibles because they think nothing can ever happen to them. It won't be cancer or a heart attack, but a $100,000 hospital bill when they get in a car wreck or fall off a balcony when they're drunk. frick them if they don't want to take responsibility.

"Kids" can stay on their parents' plan til they are, what? 27 now?

Or are you referring to >27 year olds as "stupid kids"?

Getting insurance immediately after you break your neck won't cover the injury. Unless you wait until all the paper work is filled out to go to the hospital, in which case you deserve to die anyway.

hospitals cannot turn away people...even if they dont have insurance.

Keep trying champ.

Trying to do what?

Having insurance doesn't give you access to care. It helps you with your hospital bills once something happens.

Are you under a different impression?

So Obamacare would force people to waste $3B in private capital... Funny... Barry never mentioned that on the CSPAN. debates..
The capital is not being wasted. It is being transferred to the elderly to subsidize their health care. It is just another example of the elderly taking from future generations to pay for things they want, but don't want to pay for themselves. They take the free ride and leave someone else to pay the bill. Members of Congress have learned this is an almost foolproof method of being re-elected. So they take care of the demographic groups that keep them in office.

It never really mattered if they enroll or not for Obama. All along it was a scheme to confiscate more money from taxes. Obama is and will be a billionaire with the money he will skim off that 700 Billion bucks he claimed was for "stimulus". Think of the penalty from millions of young Americans of about 1200 a year and what kind of big haul the gov will get.

I'd argue that that transfer is a waste, as it could be utilized for more economically productive uses. Certainly more productive to those individuals paying the bills.

What is more valuable to a 25-year old? $1000 invested wisely, or an "insurance" policy covering treatments the payer willl never use?

Indeed. It's too bad those paying the bills don't pays as much attention as those getting the payments.

Tell that to those who promoted this thing. That is not the message they presented to the public. They have consistently equated the two.

They haven't gotten this particular bill just yet. When it lands....maybe they will.

One thing I can state with certainty and that is that we'll all be elderly one day. You pay your dues when you're young and reap the benefits later.

Nothing wrong with filing for bankruptcy if the hospital comes after you.

Unless you are trying to work for a government contractor.
