Serio Ramos' hair should get RM a 10 point deduction.

No shite.

Yeah, you´re right Hendo, Javi Martínez should be playing the Busquets role at Bayern. I don´t know the other you mentioned, I´d assume he´s pretty damned good.

In the preseason, Pep seemed to love Kirchhoff, he also subbed in the first game. Everyone assumed he'd play CB but he's been a damn good DM so far. Javi played a lot of center back and a little bit of defensive mid, so we'll see how that goes.

@HH
I don't think moving Schweinsteiger up to an offensive mid is necessarily a bad thing. I think Javi will do fine in the defensive mid role.

As much as I hate FC Hollywood, I still think they are the class of Europe. They were obviously head and shoulders above everyone last year, and I think they improved more than anyone else so far in the transfer window.

Now, it's still early, so I'm not saying all of that talent will result in another treble, but it would be a waste of talent if they don't.

I know this is some wishful thinking, but I sure would love to see my Eagles pull out a W (heck, I'll take a draw) against them this weekend.

It's not even really an attacking midfielder position but just not as a lone defensive midfielder.

I wonder if Mario Goetze will make the roster this weekend.

We'll see. I think this season is going to be crazy.

Just complained to Hendo on Twitter about United. Think we get third this season. Chelsea and City have improved too much while we have done nothing but lose SAF...which I think hurts us more in the transfer game than on the field. Spurs also scare me.

Sorry for the hijack. Carry on.

Gotcha. Either way, I don't think it won't be a huge problem. I think any kinks will be worked out by the 5th-7th match.

Good question. Is he injured still? Or is he having trouble adjusting to the system?

Maybe. It's too early to tell. But I don't really think anyone else improved enough to challenge FCB for an entire season.

Coming back from injury, he played in a friendly last Sunday and scored 2 goals in 20-30 minutes.

Dortmund is pretty damn good; don't write them off, no matter how douchey their fans are.

Oh wow, yeah he's a good talent.

I think they've improved, and I think they will be FCB's closest challengers, and I think the spread might be closer than it was last season, but I don't think BVB has enough to take the title.

Even with Moyes, I think that United has enough weapons to push Chelsea and City. If United can retain Rooney and find a serviceable partner (healthy Cleverley or Anderson provided no one else is brought into the fold) for Carrick, they'll be good.

Saw that piece. Very interesting on the long balls too.

Whats Pep's ultimate goal tactics wise? Who would be his ideal XI?

I still think we'll eventually see Jan Kirchhoff or Javi Martinez as the defensive midfielder,

i don't get using javi as a dedicated CB for this reason: at barca the fullbacks acted as wingers in attack, essentially, and busquets drifted back into a CB role defensively. using javi at the DM position will accomplish the same thing, where he will play a hybrid-CB role a great deal as a DM

why make him a dedicated CB? let bastian play a xavi-like role as midfield facilitator/organizer a little up (where he can get back if needed). pair him with a more AM like kroos/muller in the iniesta role. then you have 2 inverted wingers and goetz/mad in the attacking roles, with the fullbacks acting as support wingers/outside mids

it makes so much sense that i don't get it. does pep really value kroos that highly? you could always use him as an offensive sub if you need to score and a way to rest muller (or riberty/robben, sliding muller out wide. i really fricking love muller, btw). if pep wants to use goetze as a central AM and not a CF or winger, this is going to get even more complicated

I honestly have no idea. Not everyone has been healthy so we haven't gotten to see it.

I think with the long balls is that Pep wants to have Bayern put a ton of pressure on defenses this year. With his style of high pressure and with the inverted triangle, you have 2 center mids who play high enough up the field to press the two holding mids that nearly every team uses. I think the hope is that you either spring an attacking player with the long ball or you put their defenders under enough pressure where they just give it away to you in your offensive third.

It makes a lot more sense to me to have Javi as a DM than a CB, I just think the idea of Javi as a CB is a way to make the lineup even more offensive though.

Pep loves Robbery, it'll be hard to put those guys on the bench. You'd need to have Muller at CF to open up one of those CM spots, then you'd have Schweinsteiger, Kroos, Thiago, Goetze who can all play the 2 center mid spots. I think Goetze will play CF or one of the wings.

the fullbacks thing is slightly inaccurate. abidal acted as a third CB a lot. that was a big shift for barça last year since alba threw off their defensive shape. lahm and alaba both like to attack so that could interesting to watch.

re: Bastian Schweinsteiger will struggle in Pep's new system

Most of the time under Pep, teams have just sat back against us, so the formation actually changed quite a bit to something like this:

--------------- Dante --- Boateng ------------------

------- Alaba ----- Schweiny ------- Lahm ----------

------------ Kroos ----------- Muller ------------

Ribery -------------- Mandzo -------------- Robben

It then evolves depending on what side the ball is on, with that winger moving a bit inside and being overlapped by the wingback. It's very, very attack minded. Which is kind of the issue with Schweiny playing the DM spot, he's not a skilled enough defender to kill a counter by himself.

Seems like a False 9 is where this is headed. So much talent in the midfield and most of these guys can play multiple roles.
