Could a 4-3-3 work?
------------AJ---------Jozy----------Donovan
---------------------Dempsey
----------------Jones------------Bradley
------------FJ------Besler-----CB-------RB
Push FJ and whomever plays RB up on attack, have Jones/Bradley switch up covering CBs. Donovan would track back, not sure about AJ's defensive work rate. Almost be running a Barca system.
I don't think the back line is good enough and I don't think the passing through the middle would be good enough, but they would have attacking punch. Could go even more for offense and invert the midfield triangle with Dempsey/Mix and then have Bradley playing the anchor role.

While I trust AJ and Donovan's defensive work rate, I don't think we can contain possession well enough in the midfield. And I don't think our CB's are up to the task. 433 is my favorite formation, but I don't think we can pull it off. I also think Dempsey would be a little too out of his element in the inverted triangle version.
