Obligatory Next Day Line Up Thread

We could quickly morph to a 4-4-2 with Bacon and Jolazo up top, and Dempsey and Donovan on the wings.
Though Evans has played more than admirably, RB has turned into our weakest link in the absence of Cherundolo and Chandler. I'm going to assume both are still committed to the team and available for call in.
This would be, without a doubt, the most talented starting 11 the USA has ever fielded.

Brooks has some work to do to crack the first 11. Looked promising yesterday but has a ways to go.

I thought he was markedly better than Cameron, and while he's young and lacks experience the talent is overwhelmingly obvious. He needs as much playing time as possible. Do I think we should start him on the road in San Jose next month, maybe.
Just as a sample, I went and reviewed some of the larger media outlets player ratings.
Yahoo
Brooks - 5
Cameron - 4.5
New York Times
Brooks - 6.5
Cameron - 5
Soccer by Ives
Brooks - 5.5
Cameron - 4
Now, a lot of people on the board have been clamoring to see Cameron take a full time position at CB. Well, he just got outplayed by a 20 year old, in his first cap, without more than two days of training with the team.

Yep, no doubt about it. Really hope we can get one more WC out of Dolo at RB. That's the last piece remaining.

He did play better than Cameron in this game, but I need to see a lot more before I'm saying that he should start

I love when someone looks good in a one off friendly, and everybody wants them to start immediately, be named perma-captain, have them transfer to Real Madrid and build a $40 million Nike campaign around them.

Always the pessimist. No one is claiming Aron or JaB are world beaters, but they're obviously in the upper echelon of our player pool. I guess we could continue to trot out Zusi and Omar for continuities sake.
Bosnia is no joke, and the two new guys both had stand out performances.

What body of work makes it obvious?
25 minutes in a friendly?
I think they both looked good, and both appear to have potential. I'd guess that neither are the hidden Messi that will lead us to 14 consecutive World Cups.
I think everyone was having the same discussions about Omar and Zusi in April.
"Automatic, first choice every time! No doubt!"

JaB and Aron are already first choice starters at larger, more competitive clubs than Zusi or Omar will likely ever play for. Not only that, they're playing there at an age when Zusi and Omar were still competing against other NCAA athletes.
Do you think Germany would be fighting to keep Omar in their national team, would Zusi have lead the Danish league in scoring as a 20 yo?

Pump the brakes a bit

Nobody is saying he isnt a young talent. He just needs more time and work to polish of his game. He certainly has a bright future.

As a RM that would be pretty damn impressive

Omar and Zusi are likely MLS lifers. Could they go abroad, yes, though neither would be sure fire starters.
I've seen Omar make mistakes and hoof the ball down the field just enough times to know that JaB is already a better player. Zusi and Aron aren't even on the same planet in terms of talent.
I'd be willing to bet that a club would have to pay more for JaB or Aron than they would for Zusi and Omar combined.
Fact is, 95% of national team scouting comes from club performance, JaB and Aron are vastly superior club players.

Well depends where

I dont even know why we're comparing these two

Which means absolutely NOTHING when talking about who belongs in the starting 11 right now

The big question is this:
How do we get Jozy, Donovan, Dempsey, Bradley, Jones, AJ, and FJ all on the field and all in their best positions? I don't think it's possible.
Either AJ drops and and FJ goes to the wing, or FJ stays at LB. I love FJ on the wing though. He always produces there for us. It's quite the conundrum.

We'll agree to disagree. Give me the 20, 22 yo with obvious top 4 Euro league potential, over the 27 yo MLS lifer with a larger sample size.
It's clearly sujective, and I'm not bashing Omar or Zusi at all. I'm comparing Zusi to Aron, because Aron plays RW and Forward.

I like the OPS starting 11, but I might switch Dempsey and Johannsson. I like having Bacon and Brooks in the lineup. Both players have high ceilings, and we are aiming to make a real run in the 2014 World Cup. I went best possible outcome, even if that means we take a risk with the young guys.

Could a 4-3-3 work?
------------AJ---------Jozy----------Donovan
---------------------Dempsey
----------------Jones------------Bradley
------------FJ------Besler-----CB-------RB
Push FJ and whomever plays RB up on attack, have Jones/Bradley switch up covering CBs. Donovan would track back, not sure about AJ's defensive work rate. Almost be running a Barca system.
I don't think the back line is good enough and I don't think the passing through the middle would be good enough, but they would have attacking punch. Could go even more for offense and invert the midfield triangle with Dempsey/Mix and then have Bradley playing the anchor role.

While I trust AJ and Donovan's defensive work rate, I don't think we can contain possession well enough in the midfield. And I don't think our CB's are up to the task. 433 is my favorite formation, but I don't think we can pull it off. I also think Dempsey would be a little too out of his element in the inverted triangle version.

I would love to see Donovan and Jozy up top together, with a diamond midfield looking something like this:
--------Deuce-------
FJ-----------------Bradley
---------Jones--------
Something like this worked in the Slovenia game very, very well.
I would love to see Jozy and Donovan up top together.
I'm just going to say it a third time, I would love to see Jozy and Donovan up top together.

Donovan/Jozy up top would be dynamite. He looked so much better with GAM and then AJ with him yesterday
I'm not the biggest fan of the Diamond in general. It's just too narrow for my tastes. I think you have to choose between Bradley/Jones or make sure your RB is getting up field.
Some interesting stuff here on previous tactics of the USMNT from Howler.
