I 've been in landscaping for over 6 yrs, and its been my exp. that you can use a slow release fertilizer (like i said, ozmocote) pretty much every few months and they will respond positively.
Right now, you should just concern yourself with ensuring that the trees get plenty of water. Theyll drop those leaves when winter hits. Cut em back right around mardi gras and theyll explode late spring/early summer with new growth.
