When to feed new crepe myrtles

Planted two tress about a month ago for the wife. They where already about 12 foot tall when I planted them. Its been a struggle with the heat kepping them from dropping their leaves. How long should I wait before I feed? I googled but there are a million different opinions. What says the all wise OB?

Ozmocote (general purpose fertilizer) now, then in november, then in february. Also, top them (cut 'em back) the 2nd week of february. They'll thank you with new spring/summer growth.

Don't plant trees in July. Too hot.
