Hey OB, the past few weeks I've been going to the Grand Isle/Fourchon area and I'm remembering why I loved going there so much as a kid.

So I've decided to buy a kayak simply because I don't want to buy a new truck and a new boat all at once (I've got a TDi with a roof rack, so kayak is the best option right now). The problem is I've never known anyone that kayak fishes.

Is there anything in particular I should be looking for? I know I want a sit on top, rather than sit in. But other than that I'm pretty clueless.

Thanks fellas.

Get a Hobie if you want to fish, get a regular kayak if you want to paddle.

Look at the Jackson Cuda. Also might want to read through the pages of Bayou Coast Kayak Fishing Club site. Lots of good info there.

So many options out there that will work- if you're serious about getting one, attend the local demo days and go to a kayak tournament if you want to see how everyone has their rides rigged up.

Of course, if you want a shortlist:
Wilderness Ride
Jackson Cuda or Big Tuna
Native Slayer
Diablo Adios or their new poly yak coming out

If you have money to burn:
Native Mariner
Hobie Outback

You can cartop any of those pretty easily- heaviest ones would be the Big Tuna and Mariner, but they're not too bad.

If you just fish the marsh and are not wanting to go out to the beach, I would look at the Native Ultimates as well. They aren't SOT's, but are damn near perfect for the inside marsh.
