2000 Ford Explorer, 197k miles.

When I start it up it has a louder than normal "clacking" sound coming from the engine. It has always had a little sound to it, but noticed it was louder than normal this morning.

Got to a stop light and the damn thing shakes uncontrollably (actually a pretty decent massage). Only shakes in Drive and Reverse. If I put it in nuetral at the stop light, the shaking stops. First thing that comes to mind is transmission, sell immediately.

The clacking sound also becomes more "frequent" as the RPMs go up. And by that I mean a roughly 3 clacks a second in idle, compared to about 10 a second at 2500 RPM.

I'm basically just hoping to drive it to the dealership Saturday and buy a new truck. Just wanted to make sure it's not some simple fix that can buy me some more time with it.

It's been a great 10 years exploder.

Does it make more noise when turning, If so it could be the CV Shafts.

Lemme guess, you weren't real keen on oil changes?

Broke rocker arm, valve spring, etc.

It just needs a new home. Quickly.
