Non Conference Games in Baseball

Do they matter? Does SOS matter that much in college baseball?
Why have we played a Big 10 team non-conference every year for the past 5 years or so? I understand we are doing a favor for Northern schools, but why always the Big 10?
Would anyone want to play better non-conference opponents in baseball like an Arizona State or Oregon State or Texas? I see VA Tech in there for one game-----I would prefer UVA.
My point is, in football and basketball we usually have at least one good name school non conference, but not so much in baseball (at least not lately----I think pre-2000s they would play Fullerton and such). Does anyone know why not?

we make more money playing in Alex Box
LSU football makes more money playing in houston/dallas + gains national exposure

It matters big time to Northern Schools who are freezing their butts off at that time of year and they need a warm climate to play and LSU gets to play at home.

If we would just play better out of conference teams we might be able to be a top 8 seed.

You gotta get good teams to travel here and they will expect a trip in return. If its not gonna make LSU money they don't wanna do it. 2015 you get a decent tournament in Houston to go to. Now that the SEC is invested more in baseball you don't really want to load up too much. We did just play CSF a few years ago at home though. It's not like every game is against ULL.

If you finish top 2 in the SEC you get a top 8 seed more than likely
Top 4 host regional
The only impact it has is on is if you are a bubble team for hosting or top 8. I don't mind easy matchups

Another thing the SEC top to bottom is so strong you will normally have a rpi if you play well.
SEC will normally get 4 hosts and 2 top 8
Arkansas is an example of being killed by OOC but they lost. If you win those games you won't get hurt much.
