Is it unneeded in most cases, sure.

But the statement remains: You do not know if you are secure or not unless you do it. Period.

You can easily gamble by not doing it and still come up on top, but that doesn't mean you aren't taking a risk.

Of course, I'm good at backing up so the task for me is one of a couple of hours so it's not a big investment for the surety of security.

I know most don't give back ups even lip service.

Even the best software doesn't protect you from everything or even nearly everything.

Based on your 100% certainty principle, the only safe computer is one never hooked to the internet. And even that one isn't safe because your kid will bring a disc from school loaded with porn to check out when you are out of the house.
