ATH has woken up and this is a nice in depth look at the much maligned Ryno/Davis combo.

There is hope and a reasonable case that this combo can work defensively.

This begs the question: if Davis and Anderson were so good together in these two instances, what lineups made their pairing so atrocious on average? One of the big culprits was lineups in which Vasquez was pushed to an off-guard position. In lineups that featured Brian Roberts along with Vasquez, Davis, and Anderson, the Hornets ceded an eye-popping 1.328 points per possession over 161 possessions and 92 minutes.

That's great job of really disecting the numbers, great article.

I think the new additions to the roster completely change the AD/Ryno combination. More defensive help . . . quickness, athleticism, etc.

Nice article. The real question about the defense of this unit IMO is can Monty come up with schemes to stop the LeBrons and Durants. All indications are that Tyreke is a decent defender, but to stop those guys one on one you have to be elite. What is the cost of helping Tyreke and is that worth swapping Evan's offense for Aminu's defense? It's entirely possible that Aminu is in the crunch time lineup and Monty pairs whoever is hottest between Gordon and Evans next to Jrue.

We'll see. I just think Davis is such a finesse player. I don't like the idea of him fighting for boards against gasol or whoever all game. AD's per 36 ppg was almost 17 ppg. If he actually plays close to 36 minutes per game this season and Ryan Anderson puts up his 16 like last season, we should be one of the highest scoring teams with the Ryno/AD lineup. Very exciting at least.
