Speaking of defense, does anyone know how Rasco's shoulder surgery is healing. Does he have his bench press up to where it was before the surgery?

There is no such thing as a bad LSU defense under Chavis!

@nfldraftscout: Obvious statement of the day: The LSU defense is absolutely loaded (again) with draft prospects.

I blame Miles.

eep in mind that LSU hasbeen using a very deep rotation over the past few years and that means that LSU's youngsters are battle tested and ready to earn their stripes.

people are over looking this. some of the youngsters are more battled tested than the youngsters from 2011. our dbs have seen more pt than all the dbs minus mo going into 11. brooks barely played until hus sr year, taylor was moved to safety in 2010 and got hurt. tm7, reid and simon didnt start gane one of theur trye frosh year. hell mills has more pt that pp7 had his frosh year. Sane goes for the line.

Agreed.

Eugene, Sandolph, Tompson are all young safeties with game experience. Adding Loston and Martin in and we will be fine at that position.

Anxious for fall camp to start.

When you really think about it, freshman not only contributed, they were pretty damn key to last years defense playing that well. Hell, Mills was basically our #1 corner and he shut almost everyone down. Kwon had a starting job locked up until his injury at Florida. Collins also played well as a RSFresh. Martin and Eugene saw tons of time in the secondary as well. Debo was wrecking shop every time he touched the field.
Just think about that on top of the guys we having coming in who expect to push for playing time immediately like Tre White, Beckwith, and just about anyone on the d-line.

Well be fine.

The rest of the SEC has no idea what's in store for them this year.

I'm pretty sure the coaches of the SEC exactly know what LSU is putting on the field. The only people running their mouths is the media.

The trend that I have noticed the last few years is that players (specifically defense) play even more hungry two years before the draft. Just to name two Guys like Freak and Rasco will cement themselves as first rounders this year and I would be willing to bet they don't put up as food of numbers the next year

The guys we were rotating left also. Very few DLinemen playing this year have any significant amount of playing time, in fact the guys we are counting on this year have as much experience as our second rotation guys would normally have.

Yea but they want to prove themselves, so they have to be awesome.

I feel like LSU fields the same team every year. I would never expect them to have a weak defense. I honestly can't recall a time when LSU HASN'T had an NFL stud or two on the D-line.

So much so that they put Mills in coverage on 6'6 260 pound Austin Sefarian-Jenkins and he more than held his ground for the whole game

The talking heads are saying we aren't gonna be as good, but we had 14 freshmen play last year which is a stat that isn't talked about much

Agree 100%. I think we played the second most freshmen of any team in CFB last year which means we have lots of experience going into this season. You are right, not too many are talking about it but that is fine with me. We will show it on the field.

From a coaching standpoint, this will likely be Chavis' best coaching job ever if our defense is Top 10 in the country. Talent is there, but the complete lack of experience especially up front is pretty startling. If he can get the big uglies up front to play well as a unit, the defense stands to be very, very good.
