I'm trying to get a feel for the way player evaluation is starting to change. The NBA has been transitioning toward advanced stats metrics, and I find it really interesting. I know there are some really smart guys on this board who know their way around this stuff. Any tips for a curious observer?

I'm also interested in trying to figure out the financial side of franchise management, but I figure I'll take one step at a time.

82games.com is a great source for actual stats. Click on a team name on the left of the site. It's amazing how in depth they go.

If your trying to actually understand the stats and what they all mean basketball-reference.com has a glossary that I find helpful. They also have a historical database of advanced stats.

BSS has a great introduction to advanced stats series. I would start there, if you haven't already, for the basics and explanationsbn of the numbers.

B-R, 82Games, and Wages of Wins, as mentioned above, are all great sites. HoopData is another one to check out.

The NBA.com stats page is also a winner. Its probably the most comprehensive of all the sites and the layout is easy to use.

Just read the Advanced Stats primer on BSS. Really well done series of articles. I understand this a lot better already.

I'd thumbed through a few pages from Arturo Galletti's Wordpress site when I made the thread. I think I'm gonna go check out Wages of Wins next. Thanks for the advice fellas

Honestly, wikipedia is a good start. They usually list the formulas and the rationale behind them.
