247 has tagged that Clifton Garrett ran a 4.79 at the Nike Sparq test...
Saw Speedy Noil be proud of his run because he said he ran a good time for the timing system they used...... so seems to take some ticks off of people's 40... but must be more accurate...
ANYWAY.. Anybody care to search and find the 40s for the LSU recruits..??? or all grades - times?
Just asking

4.8 laser for a ILB in high school is more than good enough. Kevin Minter ran a 4.8 hand timed at the combine and got taken in 2nd round.
Also, to the poster who mentioned Ali Highsmith, he actually ran a 4.96 at the combine. He was being mocked in the first 3 rounds and went undrafted after that time. His dumbass should have only run at pro day...

Tony Brown seemed to overcome the timing issue. And 4.79 is plenty fast.

That's a good and realistic time for a 230 pound LB in HS.

Brandon Spikes ran a 5.0 and was an all American and a beast in the nfl

Nitwit says he's still not fast enough

Maybe you should start by posting times updated on 247 from The Opening.
And Garrett should be compared to his peers not LBs that were in the NFL or participated in the Draft, kid is about to be a SR in HS. Raekwon McMillan ran a 4.79 and Kain Daub ran a 4.87.

How often is a linebacker running straight ahead? Lateral quickness is much more important.

I care about quickness a lot more than speed for most positions...OL...DL...LB...QB...TE Obviously strength is in those also but we are talking 40 times so I will stay on topic.
IMO, 40 times to be relevant assume you will run more than say 20 yards on a play (rarely happens for the positions listed above). That usually narrows it down to RBs, WRs, safeties, and corners. Garrett explodes on a tackle and is strong. I will freely admit that if a clever RB or WR decides to run 20 yards backward and then to the sideline and then 20 yards back to the LOS, Garrett will look bad on that type of pursuit.
