re: Your Top 3 Americans In History

Lincoln did not go to war to end slavery. He did not much care about slavery. Lincoln went to war over money. The only reason he abolished slavery was to collapse the economy of the south.

Woodrow Wilson.

You mean the same Woodrow Wilson who signed the 1913 Federal Reserve Act and later said it was one of the worst mistakes he made?

eta: I am a most unhappy man. I have unwittingly ruined my country. A great industrial nation is controlled by its system of credit. Our system of credit is concentrated. The growth of the nation, therefore, and all our activities are in the hands of a few men. We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most completely controlled and dominated Governments in the civilized world no longer a Government by free opinion, no longer a Government by conviction and the vote of the majority, but a Government by the opinion and duress of a small group of dominant men. -Woodrow Wilson

I think it's funny when people include loncoln on a list with Washington. The 2 men held beliefs on absolute opposite ends of the spectrum about how out country should prosper.

There was like 80 years between their presidencies and what was good for the US at one time may not be good for it in another. For example 80 years ago having a representative democracy was what was best for the USA but today it's not.

Indeed it was.

Eastsidestunna is a friend of mine. He was new at the time and had no idea the treacherous waters he was entering when he posted that.

I'm glad he mentioned it to you. Because I don't know if you would have believed the historical records of the times

re: Your Top 3 Americans In History

I think George Washington and Benjamin Franklin should be the easy 2, but the 3rd is tough. Seems like a lot of people think Abe should be up there, but he was a tyrannical MF'er. I think I'll go with Thomas Jefferson. Thomas Edison wouldn't be a horrible choice either.
