I realized that when I went to pull it off but I didn't feel like putting it back on, taking another pic and loading it with the others. I actually thought someone would have caught that sooner.

I wanted to add one other point on shooting the Mosin - shoot it. It's fun.
BUT, a LOT of the ammo for it uses corrosive primers (in non-reloadable steel cases). That requires an extra step to clean the bore in that you want to use an ammonia soaked patch first (the legend is that Russian soldiers used to piss down the barrel to clean it) and then go to your Hoppes and clean as usual.
Check the bore often and make sure it's shiny. And don't be afraid to shoot cheap ammo - after all, that's what the Russians used.
