The Mosin was the main infantry battle rifle for the Russians in WWI and WWII. A better comparison would be to what other WWII era infantry rilfles were using, like the Garand's 30-06 (far right):



I think that's why so many complain about the recoil of the Mosins, they're used to shooting .223s or some shite.
