Has their ever been a more self-important TV show than "The Newsroom"?

I tried watching it last year but gave up after a few episodes because it was so heavy handed, so full of itself.. There was no subtley, no nuance, no leaving the viewer with questions to ponder. Every episode was like a self-righteous sermon. And the Tea Party paranoia was just too much to take. Something tells me that if the show lasts long enough to take on the year 2013, there won't be any episodes about Obama's drones, or the IRS targeting conservatives, or the AP scandal, or the NSA spygate, or Fast and Furious, etc. Just a hunch.

Now these teasers promoting the show's second season, with the anchor guy wandering in the wilderness (a la Moses, I assume).

Good Lord, I hate the show even more now than I did when I quit watching it.

Would you like it more if it matched your political views?

I didn't have to see an episode and could have told you that.

I think it's a great show.

For what it's worth, they hired a few conservatives to balance out the writing.

I had high hopes for this show. The West Wing was liberal but it wasn't as pompous as this show. Sorkin really shows his colors here. I stopped when the Indian kid punched the computer with Rush Limbaugh's face on it. Subtly is gone.

I'd give Aaron Sorkin a zj but the episode I watched of the Newsroom was the most obnoxious hour of "entertainment" I've endured. I can deal with heavy liberal slants but the show was just unbelievably self-righteous. The writing just came off as douchy.

hate that pompous show, but alas I will probably watch to punish myself and watch how ridiculously bad and blatant it becomes.

I tried watching it too, and it was absolute garbage. I thought it was heavily liberal and they clearly aren't trying to appeal to anyone else who isn't progressive.

Treme tells me that NOLA is God's gift to man. Every character is so self righteous too.

That live rant by Jeff Daniels in the first episode that everybody raves about was so forced and ridiculously melodramatic that I shut it down immediately and haven't gone back to it since.

I definitely think the show is self-important.

Some of the characters are absurd too.
The blonde girl thinks LOL means "lots of love."
The Indian kid basically talks about nothing but Bigfoot.

I watched the whole first season. Show had potential, but it is Terrible. Acting/ldialogue are forced and unrealistic, and overall the show and characters just take themselves way too seriously.

I really hate the way the characters interact...it's just so silly and unbelievable IMO.

The politics don't bother me at all...I just think the show sucks regardless if they did the same show flipped the other way (attacking the left).

I tried watching it because the teasers all gave the impression of a show that was going to be pretty even handed in its ridicule of politicians and talking heads on the 24 hour networks. Then I watched about an episode and a half and realized it's basically just a socialist propaganda piece with douchey, unlikeable characters that think they are all the most interesting, amazing, intelligent people in the world. HBO should be ashamed of themselves for letting that steaming pile of trash get another season.

I like it. I enjoy the pretension. I can relate to it. Plus I generally agree with the show. Republicans are liars and fox news killed journalism.

I have only seen a couple of episodes (I don't have cable so caught it when I was traveling for work) but yeah it's hard core liberal slanted...that being said I really enjoyed the two I watched...I can separate my entertainment from my politics.

I enjoyed it more at the end of the season. They need more character development and interaction and less liberal propaganda. Maybe since Obama won they can calm that shite a little. Quit pretending like he is this huge republican when every point he makes is so far left its ridiculous. I checked into several of the claims they made and its stretching the truth at best. Either attack both sides if you're the TRUTH news or don't report at all.

I feel like I gave it a legit shot. Really enjoyed the first episode and thought the concept was good. Thought the second episode was good, but not as good as the first one. The third episode was just okay and at that point I decided it wasn't worth investing my time into it. I like too many other shows to mess with "the Newsroom."

I think it largely came down to the fact that I never felt like I was watching a behind the scenes look at the news. I felt like I was watching a TV show about what goes on behind the scenes on news channels. If that makes any sense. I had no suspension of disbelief.
