Does anyone else just not get it? I'm not saying they suck, or are bad, or you're lame if you like them or anything. I never really got into the whole super hero thing as a kid except for Batman, and I know next to nothing about most of these characters.

I know they're super popular and people love them, but is there anyone else here that just can't get into them?

I'm not saying they're good, either. They're just kinda popcorn flicks for the most part. Except when they're outright terrible and not even suitable as a popcorn flick.

Ya gotta understand. Some of us waited like 40 years for the technical abilities of movie-makers and the public taste and demand in movies to get to the point where they could make quality movies out the comics we loved.

That's a lot of built in business from grown up fan boys. I'm sure the trend will run it's course and start fading to some extent.

superhero films are my favorite genre. my dream is to direct one, one day. they appeal to all of us . we can escape and pretend to be someone we're not and fight for justice and all that jazz

Hollywood's target audience is 8-17 year olds...has been this way for the past decade.

Used to be the opposite.

They are intended to give the audience a viceral outlet to overcome their own inherent powerlessness over their personal situation.

Ghost Rider

Just fricking with you. Not all are good. Green Lantern and Hancock (not sure if this was based off a comic or not) sucked. There are worse out there like Howard The Duck and Man Thing.

I've stopped seeing them

They always disappoint me and are always the same except Nolan's Batman

I'll give the new Superman a chance I guess

The last 10+ years have been fricking overkill with superhero/comic book movies. If they wanna keep making them, then fine. But i don't get my jollies from em'.

I am a big fan of most of these super hero movies.
The Batman trilogy wasn't my favorite, maybe because I am just not a fan although I recognize the excellence in filming in them.

I enjoyed all the The Marvel Phase 1 movies and Xmen first class and to a lesser extent the previous Xmen.

I have Green lantern on Netflix bluray coming in and although it gets crushed in review, I am going to watch it for myself.

I am seeing some super hero fatigue but if they keep the quality up and not fall back to dribble like Origins or FF4, I think it will still be better than most of what Hollywood is putting out right now.

The other issue is you have to realize WHY we have all of these super hero movies, which is another, more complex, topic. Don't want to derail, but yeah we could hash that out today in another thread.

And there are reasons that have nothing to do with money.

Beats the hell out of Vampires in love and Zombies out the gee gee movies, so I'm not complaining.

Super hero movies are great for Hollywood. Big action films (usually a hit with adults), with millions of kids begging to see them.

An 8 year old, and 18 year old, and a 40 year old can all be pumped to see the next Avengers or Iron Man. Not a lot of genres are that way.

I won't go quite that far, but I'm certainly not going out of my way to see most of them. This is just Hollywood doing it's thing of exploiting built in branding because producing movies around new ideas is a lot more expensive.
