Poldi basically plays like the trailing striker in a 442. Him playing off Giroud might be amazing, but as a wide player in a 4231 he doesn't do enough unless he scores.

He's actually best when he slides inside and Mesut moves wide. Those two have good chemistry and understanding. Unless Podolski is killing our accounting books, which I don't think he is, he's good to have around as 1) depth 2) goal scoring and 3) chemistry.

I agree that axis is effective, but how often have they played together? Not very often. I don't think Poldi will stick around for depth to be honest. He's good to have, but for a wide player he has to improve his movement.

i think poldi is our second highest paid player. that said, i'm cool with him sticking around if he's cool with the role he's played this year.

my thought process this summer is, could this player be an impact player on the best team in the world? because that's what all this Emirates Stadium stuff was for. we wanted to compete with the best long term. now we have the financial resources to do so, so we need to move on from our past years. wenger needs to be a tad more ruthless (not a whole lot more) than he has been.

i don't think poldi's shown the ability to consistently be an impact player from the LW or CF position in a starting role. I think he can still be an impact sub and a starter against smaller clubs.
