Yep there are other ways you can do it, but that one right there works every time, uses the least line, and does not slip. And it's very simple. But you have to get that lock down on the last loop so the rope goes under itself and lines up with the crossed rope parallel. It's just a matter of flipping the rope over but I've seen people sit there and try to figure out how to do that like it's some kind of magical piece of seamanship beyond the ken of mere mortals more times than I can count. And that's just the ones that know they're supposed to do it. Most don't.
