quote:

LSU “[Defensive coordinator] John Chavis, he’s done the same stuff schematically for what feels like forever. It’s not very difficult. They do a lot of two-man, a lot Tampa 2. That’s one thing that he’s just not going to change. I don’t think they will be the same up front at all. They lost a lot of players. In my opinion, there’s a slow, steady decline of that program. Athletically, they can reload up front. But developing fundamentally sound players, that takes time, time they might not have this year. So, I’m not sure they can recover that quickly. Zach Mettenberger, to me, is very average. With Cam Cameron coming in as the offensive coordinator, it will be a different offense. It’s probably going to open up things a lot more, and Mettenberger will probably be a better fit with doing that.”

Thoughts?

Has to be Saban, right?

Doesnt sound like Saban to me. Wreaks of spurrier or mullen or muschamp.

So wait, according to this "coach" our program is in steady decline, yet we are going to reload.

That does not sound like a steady decline. Sure we may take a step back this year because a lack of experience, but this "coach" even says our coaches can develop fundamentally sound players.

News Flash: Mett is average. He has done nothing thus far to prove he is an elite QB. But as this "coach" says maybe Cam will help with that.

My vote is on some writer in a cubicle at the Athlon office. This magazine is on par with Pro Wrestling Ilustrated.

why is everyone up in arms about this. Most are expecting a 10-3 year. Compare that to other years.

WE are implicitly saying the same thing.

Okay. We've been hearing that since Tennessee scored in OT in 2005.

Obviously the speaker didn't put much credence in his own words if he was too much of a coward to put his signature on them. I won't consider them worthy either.

We must have done something to piss off the people at Athlon this year.

What's so surprising about this? Unrealistic expectations from the get-go. Oh... he will not improve. Expect more of the same.

As Greenspan would say, "Irrational exuberance". Waiting (again) for a QB. Where's the world's greatest recruiter?

The only coach who has earned the right to say that stuff is Saban. Other than him Miles has owned everybody.

This is that mag's justification for ranking A&M higher in the west than LSU. Talk is cheap but all that matters is who wins in the fall. Can LSU be great again? of course. Can LSU get bad breaks and injuries and lose way more games than we expect? Yes. The schedule will be tough. I think that the offense will be a little better, defense a little worse overall, but still good. My big question is kicking. An inconsistent kicking game can cost you close games and we haven't had that in a long time. But don't let these bullshite comments about a program in decline bother you. That is just wishful thinking from the state on the other side of Mississippi.
