Looks like Bill Simmons and Jalen Rose are going to be doing Gruden-type pre draft sit downs with prospects.

Burke and Mccollum are the first two up:

Burke Full Interview

Mccollum Full Interview

Added more:

Alex Len

Oladipo

Shabazz Muhammad

Ben McLemore

Jon Barry would have been a better choice. Probably the best they have.

ESPN's NBA commentators are just the worst.

Maybe Barry wasn't as familiar with the college prospects.

I like Jalen doing it since he covers college basketball and the NBA. Maybe Jalen + a coach would have been better. I think Simmons is fine for this though.

Grantland's assessment of Burke:

quote:

No player had more buzz coming out of the NCAA tournament than Trey Burke. After an excellent regular season, the Michigan guard delivered some gritty performances during March Madness, leading his Wolverines to the national title game. To top it off, Burke won the Wooden Award, given to college basketball’s most outstanding player, making him seem like a can’t-miss prospect.

There are certainly a lot of things Burke does well. According to Synergy Sports, Burke was one of the best catch-and-shoot players in the entire country, with an Adjusted Field Goal Percentage (AFG — which accounts for the type of shot) of 65.1. Unfortunately, given the amount he handled the basketball, this was not a skill that Burke was able to use often. Burke is also a capable pick-and-roll player, showing good setup before using the screen and a controlled pace when attacking off it. The problem, however, is that while solid technique gets Burke shots at the rim off pick-and-rolls, a lack of elite athleticism hinders his finishing ability — similar to Milwaukee’s Brandon Jennings. This is something that will only be exacerbated at the next level, where longer, taller, and more athletic defenders await the 6-foot-1 guard. Burke also struggles both attacking with more than one or two dribbles and passing with his left hand, a real concern given the sophistication of NBA defenses.

Given these limitations, the biggest question facing Burke is what type of player he'll try to be. If he works hard to find a balanced shot/pass approach, he can likely be a winning player at the next level. If he tries too hard to play like a star, Burke will follow in the line of limited, shot-happy guards like Darren Collison, Jerryd Bayless, or, worst-case scenario, former Kansas star Sherron Collins.

Some would like that assessment. I see that as an "ouch" assessment.

I agree. Tell us he can shoot...duh. Then rip him the rest of the way.

This interview makes me want McCollum even more. Which pisses me off cause I doubt we get him

I like Burke, but I'm really starting to think he goes to Orlando at 2. Though none of these guys are All-Stars, Orlando already has a bunch of young guys with potential at the 2-5 (Affalo, Harkless, Harris, and Vuvevic)- this is assuming they don't trade Affalo for Bledsoe. Sure they'll take their lumps for a few years having so many young guys, but adding Burke to that group might be a good squad in a few years.

At least Jalen Rose played the game. Simmons is as useless as tits on a boar hog.

Simmons is a good writer, just a shitty TV personality. He has a pseudo-homosexual lisp thing going on that I am not a fan of.

I disagree about his writing. He definitely has his own style, but the substance of his writing is usually pretty stupid. He's prone to severe hyperbole and is blatantly biased toward 3 teams in the NBA.

Simmons is terrible in these interviews. Jalen actually asks some real questions and gets some intersting answers out the guys. Simmons just makes comparisons between the prospects and current players. He compared Burke to CP3, Tony Parker, Lillard, and Conley all during that interview.

I'd rather shabazz at 6 than burke or McCollum personally

I've warmed up to shabazz, just thinking about how much we need some damn production at SF. Really don't want Burke, GV, and rivers fighting over PG with no one at SF or C

I wouldn't blame you if you were serious, though

I have a feeling that shabazz's worst case scenario is klay Thompson. Dude has worked his whole damn life to get ready for the NBA. I really wasn't impressed with his college game, but an 8'9" standing reach is definitely good enough for a SF.

I think shabazz will go top 10. I still want the top 6, outside of burke, but ooo that is kinda tempting.
