Microsoft Reveals The Price of Xbox One Games: $59.99

IGN
Microsoft has announced it will sell its first-party games on Xbox One for $59.99, which is the same price most new releases are currently sold for.
Microsoft representatives confirmed the price to both Polygon and Kotaku, though it's worth noting this does mean titles published by third-parties could be sold for more.
While nothing official has been said about the price of PlayStation 4 games, Sony America CEO Jack Tretton suggested back in February that they too would be retailing for $60. He told CNBC, "We're going to welcome free-to-play models, games from $0.99 up to those $60 games."
Seeing as some retailers have been inviting pre-orders for up to $90 for a single game, it's a big relief to have it confirmed that these were just placeholder prices and not the real deal.

Saw an article yesterday on Kotaku on how the $60 price on Sony's game has not been confirmed.
I think someone from Japan contradicted what their American CEO said.

They just pulled a MS.

Basically. I think the jist of it was that the price to make games is getting much, much higher, but stopped himself from speculating on if a price change is needed.

What would be the price that would finally make you say "I just can't buy games anymore". I might stretch to $70, but even at that price, my PC seems more and more like the only way to go.

They'll leave it at $60 now more than likely after seeing this. No reason to curb their current upswing in momentum by charging $70 for their games

I think I would go to $80 but I might be a little more stingy in my game purchases. I also don't have a PC and don't want to deal with putting one together so I guess my price can be a little higher

Depends on the game really. If they did get more expensive I would have to seriously consider joining the master race, but it doesn't seem to be the case so far. At least Xbox looks like they are attempting to make the gradual switch to cheaper games.
I have a feeling if they went with their initial plan to ship the Xbox One without a disc tray their launch games would be cheaper than $60

Depends on the game. I mostly play single player games on console. So I see a game that I get 10 or 15 hours of playtime out of a lot differently than something that I get 50 to 100 hours of playtime out of.
A huge difference in bang for the buck there.

And the new trend seems to be that every game will have some form of co-op or mmo aspect in the game, which should lead to longer and possibly more play throughs.
I can't wait to see what the Co-op is like in Dead Rising 3.

After this last week or so and all these articles being posted...I just seriously can't keep a straight face at a statement like this.
IMO they are looking for a larger profit margin, not cheaper games. A lot of unearned faith being put into MS...

If this would have happened IMO they would have been knocked out of the console race before they even launched.

You know there is a way to have both...right?
MS also makes nothing off of used games as it stands. They, like the devs, could have cheaper games and still come out more profitable with no used games market.
Some of the short-sightedness I see on this makes me laugh.

i dont trust them, if they said we are taking these steps to make games cheaper from the start i would have already pre-ordered. Joke will be on us once they set all this in motion and games prices remain the same.

I never thought that the games would be less than $60 this gen.

And this made me laugh. Because you are being equally as shortsided.

You are equating possibilities to absolutes. Of course there is a way to have both...that doesn't mean both will happen.
That $60 price point has been set for 10 years now?
Why change it? Especially if you are making larger profits...
Your argument for going digital makes sense, but there is still a lot missing from the equation.

Ding ding ding, winner.
You're cool with all the negatives of the xbox one because they said they might be able to get the prices down on dl'able games.... maybe.... sometime... we'll see about it... hopefully...

same here, but a big talking point of MS going to this new way of selling games is it will be cheaper, we really don't know if it will be or not
