Food plots get a bum rap.
Last year both deer I killed were on/near the main food plot on my place. I hunted plenty or hours in other locations by creaks, oak flats and edges/corners in the woods. I think the trick was to set the stand back in the woods 50-100 ft, within sight of the plot and several approaches. Don't set up too close to the opening.
