I would say a lob is a type of pitch shot if that makes sense.

Though a flop is another beast.

I forgot about flop.

In my mind a flop and lob would be pretty much the same. Get it up, straight down, and stop.

A lob is a pitch shot you purposely hit a little higher to make it sure it lands softly. Most of the time it involves opening up the club face at least slightly to increase the loft of the club
