Wiki

quote:

The New Orleans Saints selected Dunbar in the first round, 21st pick overall, of the NFL Draft, and he played for the Saints in 1992 and again in 1994 and 1995. He finished his NFL career with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 1995. In his three NFL seasons, he compiled 965 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 267 carries.

You can hate on the other three, but that's pretty busty for a 1st rounder. And one of those years wasn't with us.

Ingram was the 28th pick. We gave up a second round pick and traded 1st rounders. Williams was a five and bush was 2cd overall. We gave up everything on Williams, he was a tremendous flop as far as a setback for the team. Deuce was drafted Ricky's second year, maybe third to replace him? He was an extreme distraction and let down. Ingram is not in the discussion in my mind.

1st round is supposed to mean immediate impact

By this theory I guess Deuce was a bust as well. Top ten picks are immediate impact guys. Not 28th. Compare apples to apples please.

Deuce's 2nd season he went to the Pro-bowl so they aren't comparable.

Don't take my statement out of context. He had 91 yards his first year. That is not an' immediate impact' as I was debating.

Bush was suppose to be a once in a life time player and wasn't. We got Ingram for a 2nd and a 1st we would have lost anyway.
Ricky was our entire draft calss and ditched us. I go
Ricky (as a saint)
Reggie
INgram

First of all, MI gets a little too much criticism. He has been disapointing, but he isn't complete shite.

Secondly and pretty off topic from this thread, I just wanted to comment on how poorly managed Deuce was his rookie year. He only got 16 carries. One of those was a 50 yard touchdown run. It made no sense that he didn't get more opportunities. How stupid was Haslett?

Ingram, but I wouldn't really call him a bust.

re: Biggest 1st rd RB bust?

Hands down it is Williams. Gave up everything for Williams

Pick #12 (Rd. 1) in the 1999 NFL Draft
Pick #71 (Rd. 3) in the 1999 NFL Draft
Pick #106 (Rd. 4) in the 1999 NFL Draft
Pick #144 (Rd. 5) in the 1999 NFL Draft
Pick #179 (Rd. 6) in the 1999 NFL Draft
Pick #218 (Rd. 7) in the 1999 NFL Draft
Pick #2 (Rd. 1) in the 2000 NFL Draft
Pick #64 (Rd. 3) in the 2000 NFL Draft

And Essentially gave up a 2nd rounder for Ingram.

Williams first 2 years
Games played: 22
Rushes: 501
Yards: 1884
YPC: -------->>>>> 3.7 (Avg. only 3.8 with the saints)
TDs: 10
Fumbles/Lost: 12/6

Ingram first 2 years:
Games played: 26
Rushes: 278
Yards: 1078
YPC: 3.9
TDs: 10
Fumbles/Lost: 1/1

Williams had much better receiving numbers but that is because he had Lamar Smith, Wilmont Perry and (end of career) Terry Allen instead of two of the best pass catching RBs in the league like Sproles and Thomas.

This. Ditka was a dumbass for what he did. I honestly would not trade that much for ANY player.

Because of that it's Williams>>>>>Ingram>>Bush.

More and more teams are starting to not draft 1st round RB's.

we ended up getting a couple of first round picks in return for Ricky when he was traded to Miami.

picking in the Dolphins spot at #25 in 2002, we got Charles Grant. Say what you will about his last few years in N.O. but he got off to a good start notching a few double digit sack totals to start out with. I don't think he did in his rookie year though...

then after Williams gained over 1500 yards for Miami in 2002, we ended taking their first round pick again. The pick was some conditional type of thing as you might imagine.

but... the Saints picked Jonathon Sullivan at #6 in the 2003 draft. They traded both the #17 and #18 picks to the Cardinals to move up to take his fat ass.

Yeah, but it doesn't really make up for it.

yeah, I know.

just going down ole memory lane.

would have ended a lot better had we taken Terrell Suggs, Troy Polamalu, Kevin Williams, or Marcus Trufant.

You call 12,615 yards from scrimmage with over 10,000 of those rushing and 76 total TD's a bust?

What do you call a non-bust?
