Good coaches don't go for it on 4th and 1 at the 29 in overtime.

I just simply and 150% disagree. For example, had Turner not sucked and gotten the 1-2 yards needed - would that make him a "better" coach?
Or, let's play this game - If the Saints don't recover the onside kick right after halftime in the SB and the Colts go on to win that SB - is Sean Payton a shitty coach?

No, but Mike Smith is.

The Falcons GM set Smith up with talent to compete. And they do. The coach gets them to the next level. And he hasn't. Its that simple.

ETA: Payton took an exiled team with few returning players and got the NFCCG. Drew couldn't throw down the field for 4-5 weeks into the season and had 3 white starting LBs. frick Mike Smith.

Turner didn't suck. Smith was stupid. Everybody in the Georgia Dome knew he was getting the ball.

Fwiw I'd put Smith in the 7-10 range.

The Falcons have a shite load of talent, but have underperformed in the post season.
So far;
Mike Smith - excellent regular season coach, awful post-season coach.
