Jason Kidd has emerged as the strong frontrunner to become the Brooklyn Nets head coach and could be hired before the end of the week, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Nets ownership has told league associates that it wants a "fresh face," as coach, and the hiring of Kidd would give them a star quality that comes with significant risk for a franchise with a mandate to complete for championships in the short term.

Talks on a possible contract for Kidd are under way, sources said.

From Yahoo!

Holy shite, dude must have given a helluva interview.

Wow. There are legit candidates out there.

I'm not saying Kidd can't be a good coach, but holy cow the experience is different.

Best of luck to him, but I wouldn't hire him if I were in a management position.

So hypothetically, could he like suit up at halftime and play point?

It's got to be weird to go from playing the playoffs last month, to coaching this month (if this happens). You're basically going to be bossing around guys you were JUST playing against.

doubt it. he is JASON KIDD. even if he flops as a head coach (which will likely be the case) it will be worth all of the media attention and other headlines they will receive and ownership knows this.

The article I read said it would happen only if they could secure an all-star cast of assistants to take care of the small things and day-to-day nuances.

What do the Nets really have to lose? They aren't winning anything with that roster regardless of who they hire.

Well if Juwan Howard can scream at the Heat at halftime after not playing a minute all year, i think Jason kidd will be fine

They have everything to lose. They fired a damn good coach who took them to the 4th seed in the playoffs.

Firing PJ was a freaking terrible idea.

They still owe Joe Johnson a zillion dollars. Having Jason Kidd as their coach is the least of their worries.

4 seed and a first round exit.

Whoop dee do.

Not saying firing PJ wasn't a bad idea, but that roster isn't attractive to me (unless Deron Williams gets his ankles fixed).

Pop has given his endorsement. That's good enough for me.

quote:

"When you've played in the league as long as Jason has and played for a number of coaches, he's pretty much seen everything that the NBA can offer," San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said of Kidd's reported candidacy while at the NBA Finals. "So he does have experience. If he's crazy enough to want to be a head coach in the league, I wish him all the best. But he certainly has the intuitive skills to know what's going on out there. Obviously, he would be able to have relationships with the players that he's had with his coaches throughout. So if that's what he wants to do, and that's who they want to hire, I think that he's got an opportunity and a possibility to be really, really good at it."

In your first season as coach? You do know he took over a team that was 14-14, right?

And how is that PJ's fault?
