Elysium- Basically a Halo movie?

Premise looks pretty interesting. I always get worried when I've heard almost nothing about a movie before it comes out

First thing that popped into my mind as well when viewing the trailer.

You think it is a Halo movie just because they have something that looks like a halo in it?
The story itself doesn't look anything like Halo to me

Nothing to do with Halo but I'm interested. Same guy that did District 9

THAT is why I am interested.

Same here. Really liked D9 and want to see the project that's been holding up its sequel/prequel. Looks promising

I think the design of Elysium (shaped very similar to a Halo) is a big middle finger to Microsoft basically for stalling the progress if the movie while he was involved. Other than that it's nothing related to Halo.

Pic of what it looks like? If you're talking about a big round space station that design has been around since at least 2001 A Space Odyssey. The spinning creates artificial gravity for the people inside.

I suppose that's it. I've only seen bits and pieces of 2001 but I only thought they did it for a space station, the jogging scen in particular around their sleeping bays. Not a huge structure in space capable of holding tens of thousands of people, plant life, other buildings and structures.

Elysium
2001: A Space Odyssey
The centripetal force of the spinning motion pulls everything to the outside creating artificial gravity. Scientists and astronomers have had this idea for years. The first time I saw it was in 2001. I doubt there's any ulterior motive towards the Halo movie.

I'm definitely interested in this movie. Looks very intriguing and interesting. It has potential.

I cannot deny the similarities, but when I first saw the trailer, with that panning shot looking up and following the curve of Elysium, it evoked Halo for me. Seeing the atmosphere fading away and noticing what appears normal landmass curving up into the sky while seeing that you're not on Earth takes it the next level. I know it probably wasn't feasible back when 2001 was made but when when I saw it I wish Microsoft would have cooperated with NB.

I haven't played the Halo games much but I've always been interested in astronomy. This thread is just a good excuse for me to talk about space and physics.

Love me some Halo. Love the games and the books. I'm surprised by the expanded universe they've built for the franchise. I can understand Microsoft wanting the best for the franchise, but NB would have been great for it. Now we are getting a live action tv series with Steven Spielberg attached. Should be pretty awesome (pending what network it ends up on, if any).
