Fishing in Ketchikan and cruising Alaskan coast. Tips or recommendations?

So on a cruise out of Seattle heading up the Alaskan coast. Longest stop is at Skagway from 6am to 5pm. So Looking for a unique fishing experience. I've never fished in Alaska or up north in general so I'm game for anything.

Skagway is a neat place, take the train to the Canadian border. Fish out of Ketchikan. I wouldn't spend my time in Skagway fishing. I guess if you did an early half day, it would be possible but I'd spend it around town, taking the train and going to Dyea.
Hike up to Dewey Lakes, go with Dyea Dave out to Dyea, see the graveyard, have a beer in the Red Onion, take the train. Full day in Skagway and you'll still leave plenty on the table.
If you want some tips to make the most of your trip, I can help.

Well we are stopping in Ketchikan from 630am to 4pm another day.
Appreciate any tips for the entire trip. Other stops are Juneau and Victoria BC. We are getting on the ship this afternoon.
As for fishing in Ketchikan, do you have a charter or otherwise that you would recommend?

Skagway is awesome. If you ever go, read the book "The White Pass" before you do. The whole town is basically a living museum, surviving from the days of the 1898 gold rush. I lived in a cabin on the corner of 16th and State St. for half a year looking for gold.

Also what about gold panning? I have a 4 year old that I thought might be fun to do that with.

Yes, do a half day charter out of K'town early when you get there. Don't worry about any shore ex. there, anything you can do in Ketchikan you can do in Juneau, plus there is much more to do in Juneau. Ketchikan area is the "Salmon Capitol of SE Ak."
What's the itinerary? Are you planning on sightseeing or doing a lot of shore ex?

Ketchikan on the 4th from 630-1600
Juneau on the 5th from 1400-2200
Skagway on the 6th from 600-1700
Victoria on the 8th from 1900-midnight
Don't have any real plans yet for onshore excursions. Traveling with my wife, son and mid50s parents. Father is up for anything hunting or fishing.

In Juneau, take the dilapidated blue bus (MGT) to the Mendenhall Glacier. No frills, but they run every 30 minutes.
There are miles and miles of trails, hike out to Nugget Falls. It's a couple hundred feet high.
If its sunny, take the tram up to Mt. Robers.
LINK
Lots of trails on top of the mountain. Tram take you up 1800 ft, but the mountian is around 4,000 ft. Lots of snow still up there, I imagine.
Whale watching, zip lines, etc.
Juneau is also home to the Juneau Ice field. If you plan on doing any flightseeing, do it here.
More miles of trails than road, so lots of hiking opportunity as well.

No real recommendations. Many of the brokers use the same captains. They will all go to the same areas where fish are located anyway.

Tell you what, if you are looking for a little more adventure then hook up with an outfitter and kayak Mendenhall Lake. Not often in life you will get to kayak around an active glacier and the bergs.

Juneau Kayak
above and beyond ak
The latter company also does glacier trekking, if you are so inclined. There is no better place in the world to hike or kayak than the JNU area.
You can also do sea kayaking off Douglas Island. I saw some humpbacks there last weekend.
According to the forecast, rain all week. Prepare for it.
