I remember getting Disney classics like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Bedknobs and Broomsticks in grammar school.
In high school we had more interesting selections. I remember my junior English teacher made us watch Joe VS the Volcano and went on about symbolism and some other foolishness and we had to write a paper on it. I'm 99% sure that guy was on drugs or something
In a senior year elective Sociology class we had a teacher make us watch Helter Skelter, the Charles Manson movie. We were learning a little bit about crimninology in that class, but I still didn't see the point, although I can tell you no one fell asleep in those classes

I can remember in one of my english literature classes all we did throughout the entire year was read the Iliad & the Odyssey at a snails pace & watch Troy & The Odyssey in class.

Yes, I can remember several teachers trying to incorporate certain movies into their lesson plans, some worked some not much
The coaches who taught classes were always a lot more up front with why we were watching movies that day. Which is where all the random flicks like Miracle, A Knight's Tale, and whatever wasn't checked out of the library came into play
