This came up in another thread, but I want to see if there are any other opinions out there.

With JaCoby back on the roster, Newman was going to be dropped off (just like the plan was for the SECT). But with Laird's injury, Newman can stay. I don't think Laird will be available until the CWS, but when he comes back, what should we do with Newman?

With how well he pitched in the SECT and how important it is to have a deep pitching staff in any tournament, I think Newman should stick around. But then the question becomes who gets taken off the roster? Barash? Yocom?

We should give Newman yocom or edward's roster spot, but i doubt that would happen unfortunately.

Actually the CWS is so spread out over so many days (11, or 12 if the "if necessary" final game is needed) that a deep pitching staff in Omaha is not as important as it is in the SEC tournament.

Compare the SEC tournament having a 12 team field and only 6 days to complete the tournament to the CWS only having an 8 team field and 11 or 12 days to complete the tournament.

Most teams in Omaha only play every other day with a few exceptions for the losers brackets.

Pitching depth is always important. Newman needs to be on the roster.

I don't see CPM deactivating a Senior for his only CWS experience, My vote would be Barash.... Chinea and Moore can catch bullpens.

With Jacoby back we dont really need Yocum as much since we can always slide Katz over if needed. Yocum brings nothing to the table as a PH either, whereas Edward does. Swap Newman for Yocum imo.

Yocom will be on the roster. He would have to play short if something happened to Bregman.

So we should not activate our better players because they aren't seniors?

If Laird is cleared to play this weekend, Newman is off the roster for the regional according to Mainieri's comments yesterday.

The rosters aren’t due until 4 p.m. Thursday, and Mainieri said he might wait until then to see how Laird’s ankle is before deciding. If Laird can’t play, Mainieri would use that roster spot for freshman right-hander Hunter Newman,
