Thoughts: Gordon for Pierce swap

Bill Simmons suggested it earlier on Twitter. It was completely hypothetical, but he's a huge Boston fan, and his thought process is pretty much in line with what other fans think. He tweeted this:
Pierce makes a little over $15m next year, and then his contract is up. He's 35 years old too. So would you take Pierce for at least a year, and the 16th pick for Eric Gordon. I would in a heartbeat. Pierce makes us better, gives us plenty breathing room for what will be a nice free agent pool in 2014, and brings valuable leadership and veteran experience. I would toss in Vasquez or Lopez too if we really needed to get the deal done.
Thoughts?

2. For instance - if N.O. wanted to get out of last 3 yrs of Eric Gordon's mini-max deal, they could flip him to Boston for PP + 16th pick.

That would be the ultimate slap in the face to Pierce. Thank you for all you've done for us. Thanks for the championship, and for being the heart and soul of the Celtics for the last 14 years. Now we're trading you to the Pelicans. That's horrible.
The Celtics should buy him out and let him go.

Ill do Gordon to the Celtics Pierce to the Clippers and then we receive the 16th pick from Boston, Eric Bledsoe, and Caron Butler or Deandre Jordan

I'd do it.
But I don't like Gordon. And YAY for cap space. Plus 6+16 pick, might be able to swing some other trades with that.

This has been discussed ad nauseum in a previous thread. McNamara brought up the rumor.
And Pierce would be bought out. Only 5 mill is guaranteed.
And...frick no.

you're unlikely to get much more than that moving Gordon. So if the goal is to just move him and move on, then it's a deal worth considering.
I wouldn't do it, I think it's about $.60 on the dollar and I would only move Gordon for about $0.75

can't be that simple. it would be horrible management/coaching to go from the big contract signing to wanting to rid of him by all means. i dont think ego was in the future plans. just have the ability to get something for him.
there are far better options for our future than a 16th pick since that's what this trade amounts to.
at the end of the day its just maximizing the benefits of trading cp3 away. superior management. ego & co missing time and trading away starting caliber players was part of it.

It also allows for you to get rid of a currently terrible contract, one of the worst in the NBA.
That's the reason why you do the trade if you do do it. Not for the pick.

Simply because of his injuries and playing not even half a season. If he is healthy going forward and produces around his career averages it isn't even close to the worst contract.
As it stands, EG and his contract suck dick. Going forward, things could be much different. I'm meh on Gordon. His stint with the Hornets/Pels has been dogshit up until now, but I'm not a "get rid of him at all costs" guy. I personally think we have little to gain from moving him now when his value is in the tank.
He isn't THAT valuable now, but he COULD add a lot to this team going forward. It just doesn't make sense to move him now. I'm still not sold on him either way. I'll have a more solid position come trade deadline next season.

....says s bunch of sports writers. It only means ego hasn't earned it. Neither have 40% of the players in the league. Until dell says that, its fine. What about lewis' 14mil we paid him this year. "Its part of the plan". Dont know who said that but someone in sports did over time.
