How the Xbox One draws more processing power from cloud computing

Video on the Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure.
Other tidbits... Some already known, some maybe not.
1. The 8GB of RAM in the Xbox One is accessible as one unified chunk and can be divvied up between the GPU and the CPU dynamically. "Different kinds of games will want to use the CPU, the GPU, and the RAM differently, Booty said. "If we were to try to determine ahead of time how you wanted to divide RAM up between video RAM, main RAM, and audio RAM, we’re making a lot of assumptions, and when you make assumptions you start to limit the people who are going to be making games going forward."
2. While the 500GB hard drive built into the Xbox One won't be easily user accessible or swappable for a larger unit, players will be able to add more storage through external USB drives, Booty said.
3. The Xbox One will make use of an IR blaster to change channels on various TV, cable, and satellite systems.
4. The system will also have an external power brick to make it easier for a single design to deal with power needs from different countries, though Booty didn't have any details on its size or design.
5. Booty dodged a question about whether or not the Xbox One will be able to record TV shows directly, as it does gameplay, but hinted that the feature would be unavailable due to rights issues.
Booty also dodged the important question of how used games and game installs will actually work on the system. "Stay tuned for the details, but we do want to support secondary use of games," is all he would say on the issue.

Hopefully its smaller than the last gen of power bricks.

You know what I got out of that? Not much. I don't understand half of it.

They also said earlier this week that a large portion of the HDD will be used just for the OS.
How big can it really be?

In reference to #1 I thought all the experts were saying 3GB was all just for the OS.

I realize you are a huge fan of the cloud, but does this not worry you a bit?

soo basically, PC is still better?

The fact that 3gb of the memory will be dedicated to the OS alone.

It's a proprietary system. It's doesn't function like a PC in that it can be more efficient with less. Look what they have done with 512MB system wide the past 8 years.

I'm actually hoping the 1GB that the PS4 is dedicating to the OS is enough

It will be just because of how fast GDDR5 is.
It's not like the XMB has as much on it as the Xbox dashboard does anyway.

The whole concept is just marketing nonsense.

Very true, and the GDDR5 fact is a good point.
I'm just thinking about the lack of RAM this past gen, and it being the direct reason the console didn't have party chat.

Apparently they were wrong

It's is enough now just like 512 system wide was pretty decent for a console 8 years ago. It won't be enough in a few years which is why Xbox is doing the cloud and no doubt Sony will follow.
I would think a firmware update would allow them to dedicate more to the OS in the future if needed maybe?

No. It is not nonsense at all. In fact this may bring the idea of cloud computing even more in to the public eye.

That should be interesting because I know Microsoft already owns and operates it's own massive cloud infrastructure. I don't know about Sony.
