Is the internet the death knell of the Grand Tourist Trap type restaurant?

The thread about Brennan's sale, and the disaster which that place had become got me thinking about that. Someone mentioned, how could a restaurant that sold eggs to tourists for $65 not be making money.

I know they've had their storied family squabbles, but part of me suspects that the bigger issue may be that it's no longer quite as easy to troll for out of town rubes willing to be fleeced for $65 for crappy eggs in a stale setting.

Perhaps there was a time where you could safely con out of towners with such crap, and the worst thing that would happen was, they'd go back to Des Moines, and never be heard from again. Now, they'll post on Yelp how awfully they've felt fleeced, and the next batch of tourists from Toledo will read that and spend their money elsewhere.

I do think it is going to slowly kill the high end expensive tourist traps.

Tom Fitz always said there is a "locals" menu with different prices and recommended asking for it if you ate there. I don't know if his site still says that, but I recall reading it.

It's certainly helping.

I'm glad this didn't get whacked. I saw it, it disappeared, and now it's here.

I would agree.

thats true in a general sense

though i suspect the cash flow issues go beyond not having enough cash coming in to support a well run operation.
