You say this, but I bet you wouldn't know what a big play in soccer looks like unless it involves a goal.

Not a big fan of soccer. It doesn't compare to football.

For one, I consider every corner kick in the last few minutes to be the equivalent of a last second hail mary.

So typical. You are suppossed to get soccer, it isn't supposed to appeal to you.

Why did you edit this out?

quote:

Are you serious? I could give a rats arse about soccer, the thread is about Football. Americans mostly don't give a shite about soccer but that is for another thread. Your trying to tell me that soccer is also exciting. OK, I see you like soccer, good deal.

Moreover, you said this...

quote:

Disagree completely, nothing tops a huge play in football. A sack on a third down, a 50 yard bomb, a huge run for a first. Football is popular because it is incredible live. Its the only sport where the fans feel they have a hand in the action while yelling when their team is on defense. The fantasy and tailgating adds to the experience, but football is so popular because it is awesome live.

You act like the fans don't get majorly involved in soccer, that's completely false. You act like tailgating only happens for football, that's completely false.

It may not happen in the South, but in plenty of areas of this country all of those things happen for soccer games. Sorry you talked out of your arse and I called you on it.

I would like to see what the viewing numbers look like for a NFL season without fantasy football.

Take away fantasy football and I really think the numbers would struggle. Obviously stadiums will still be packed bc people won't stop cheering for their teams but the actual TV numbers would have to be significantly lower.

I know that I personally wouldn't give a shite about every game on a given week outside of 2 or 3 and I consider myself a huge NFL fan.

No point, you'll just tell me it isn't exciting.

Any free kick within 35 is usually exciting. Corner kicks, set plays that your average joe doesn't understand the movement, well executed slide tackles, a big save, basically all of stoppage time in a close game.

I realized the OP was comparing football to other sports as far as excitement and had to change the argument. We can sit here all day and argue over the sports, the fact of the matter is that football is a bad arse spectator sport the best there is. Soccer seems intense during the world cup. I don't see much passion during an MLS match

Would take a dip, would still be the king of sports in America.

I'm not sure if the numbers would struggle, but there would be a noticeable drop.

It's violent, which makes it a good mechanism for people who have pent up aggression or violent tendencies and need a release. It's also one of the more simple sports and is easy to follow.

I think people (Colin Cowherd cough) put way to much emphasis on gambling and fantasy with regards to the NFL's success. Fantasy baseball has been around for a long time and it doesn't seem to make a difference at all.

I stand by my previous reasons.

The funny thing about football is it's truly the most boring slow paced sport there is yet some how with all the bell and whistles on TV they tricked people in to believing it was exciting.

It's true. Action per minute is awful for football, regardless of your emoticon use.
