When did baseball become second most popular sport at LSU?

I think it is pretty clear that baseball is easily number two at LSU. I admit I am a Tiger baseball fan, but enjoy Football way more and basketball is my second. Just wondering with all the success baseball has had, when did it really cross over to being so big here- 96-97 era? I assume it is agreed basketball was #2 in the 1980's and before. Interested to hear others who know much more about it than me. thanks

To me, baseball jumped basketball when Shaq left. I love LSU basketball, but I am always more anxious for baseball's opening day than basketball.

If you win, you will always have a great chance to be second most popular sport at LSU.
If baseball was having an off year, the negatigers would be out in full force, and there would be no fair weather fans following baseball. Just win!

winning breeds popularity and losing breeds loss of popularity. baseball wins nc, basketball no.

They became 2a and 2b after the back to back titles.
Baseball became #2 by itself after the 2000 title and the aftermath of basketball not following up on the 2000 sweet sixteen run.
The PMAC was still putting a lot of people in the seats as late as 2002 Arizona.

My guess would be 1993 or there abouts. Basketball began to wane and mounting baseball championships won over the fans.

Early 90's. When I was a kid in the late 70's, 80's we used to go to the games occasionally and the place, which was much smaller at the time, was practically empty. Basketball was packed every game and hugely popular. It's still weird for me to think of basketball as anything but a solid number two sport at LSU.

Early-Mid 90's around when Daddy Dale was on his way out and we were making Omaha our bitch.
Look for baseball and basketball to be 2a and 2b in not too long, though.

LSU fans will support anything that wins on a consistent basis. Once Johhny gets the basketball program back winning the fans will start to come more and become more interested.
