Bobby Cox also trotted out Scott Thorman 100+ times. Did he think Thorman added value or was Thorman just the best guy Bobby had?

So you're saying that John Schuerholz, Frank Wren, and Bobby Cox were willingly signing and paying players that they thought did NOT bring value to their team on the field?

I find that just a bit hard to believe.

Oh for frick's sake....you can't be this dense. Stop arguing for the sake of arguing.

They don't sign a guy with the expectation that he will be terrible. If anyone had known for sure that Uggla would be such a train wreck a couple of years ago, he probably never would have been traded for, much less signed to a big extension. Sometimes things just don't work out the way people hope or expect. Even the best GMs in professional sports can't tell the future.

Not to mention the fact that there are payroll constraints, farm system concerns, etc. that prevent you from acquiring better players at certain positions. Sometimes you just have to roll with who you have, even if who you have isn't any good.
