They hold their value pretty good, probably around $500-$550 if you could find one. The 686 is a stainless model. If you wanted its blued counterpart (not sure of the number) that may knock some coin off of the price.

the rubber grips make the revolvers look unauthentic.... the old wood grips really complete a revolver.

I agree. I added those grips to mine in the pic above. Hogue makes aftermarket wood grips in a variety of woods. I got mine on eBay for around $60 I believe.

Yes. My 686 has a 6 inch barrel. I wanted to be very clear here before my response is a sig quote. But, I plan on doing some hunting with mine.

there would be nothing to be embarrassed about a six incher. you'd already be better than 50% of americans, 70 % of chinese americans, and 6 % of african americans who don't play basketball or football.

I don't know how you all can go with anything but a Medusa. If you can only own 1 revolver you might as well have one that shoots the largest variety of calibers.

Can you identify the model of mine? Just says.38 S&W SPL. on one side and S&W written out on the other of the barrel.

That, sir, looks like a model 36 chiefs special that someone put a grip on.

It is a beautiful revolver man. Ever bit as nice as my 686 just different caliber and frame

And the blued version of the 686 is the 586

Or the rather the 686 is the stainless version of the 586 since the 586 was first!

Also, Gaston, I think you would do well to get a nice wood grip and change that pachmayer looking grip out.

On those snubby .38 specials nothing looks better than some nice wood grips
