downvoted just for the frick of it.

I'd def. be interested in reading a draft. I love seeing people's creativity at work. You probably do have me mixed up w/ someone else when it comes to movies, I'm not a big movie buff, I get bored too easy by most of them. I'm also that guy that'll finally get around to seeing mainstream movies 5 yrs later, but I'll randomly find some little fanfare indie flick and fall in love with it.

Word. I like finding those little hidden gems as well.

I have 3 original ideas that I really want to put on paper, as well as 1 adaptation. Hopefully I can do all of them at some point.

When the Secretariat movie was filming in Lafayette, the set decorator bought a shitload of stuff from my mom's store that was used in the movie and she ended up living with us. she still buys stuff from my mom to use in movies that are shot nearby and we keep in touch. I'm gonna try and get her to give my finished products to someone she knows

How'd you go about it? Where did you learn how to put in the right format?

I've written a couple. I went to film school and wrote 2 for my different screenwriting classes. I then worked in production for a few years. Final Draft is great, but here's a free program that will help you with the formatting:
Celtx Desktop
You want the desktop version.

I just read a ton of screenplays from good writers/directors and figured it out from there.

Good way to learn.

apparently there is no established standard in hollywood, so you just have to have the basic sluglines/scene headings, capitalizations, and indentations, etc. you can really make it your own.

Yes and no. Some things have changed in regards to how you label Scene Headings, Dialogue, etc but you do have to be in line with what standard screenplays look like. Like what you've done by the ones you've read. I have seen multiple screenplays not even get read because 1 little thing is off. Too many to read so they look for a reason to ditch it. Pretty ridiculous.

Yeah, still do a little Producing sometimes. I was living in S.F. and L.A. and working full-time for about 6 years. I moved to Hawaii in 2005 though, so now it's smaller projects (indie film or music video) that I may get involved in. I have contemplated going back to L.A. and getting into it again.

If you have something that is really good, I don't have to be in L.A.

But I have considered going and being a manager or agent. I always seem to put people together. Even from here, I have helped a few of my friends into some very nice situations just by knowing a lot of different people.

Yeah and I did it using my own imagination. Turned out pretty complex and long in the end.

Read the book Adventures In The Screen Trade by William Goldman (author of Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid)

Then read Story by Robert McKee

Throw in Screenplay by Syd Field and and Aristotles Poetics. We just saved OP 100 grand on film school.

The screenplay is the easy part, although you have to use the right format, including font, ect., or it will get tossed.

The hard part is finding a decent agent. You have to find an agent to get your script read. Same deal for writing novels. They get a percentage, but basically do all the work. You shouldn't have to pay anything up front, but you have to get one to even have a chance at getting it in the right hands.
