Why does it seem like most of the recruits we are after are must gets?

I know it seems that way to me anyway and I cannot figure it out.

I was thinking maybe because most are from in state but then I think of a guy like C. Garrett who is a definite must get because of his talent.

Which leads me to believe its because they are all big talents.

What do yall think?

Because, when you play in the best league, and you're slotted in the same division with the current model for CFB success, margin for error is razor thin. About 58 seconds thin. Here's only 25 scholarships to give, so, you'd better be right on evuatuon. Adequate depth must so be taken into consideration. Also under heavy scrutiny because you cannot allow another regular opponent to out recruit you in a particular position. Particularly, in postions on the LOS and qb. there are gonna be some "misses", however, these must be kept at an absolute minimum. Social media has also added to the scrutiny. We may want a particular "can't miss", not knowing he is a complete lazy arse, head case, thug, poor student or troublemaker with a sketchy past. We are allowed to star gaze. "Recruiting is like shaving. If you miss, you look like sh*t"- Bobby Ross.

Spot on and I agree 100%.
2015 is also loaded and will be just as frantic and closely followed.

It's because LSU and its fans expect a team that will compete for SEC and national championships. To compete at that level, you must bring in the highest level talents. It's a talent arms race in the SEC and a program can fall behind quickly if they don't keep up. The stakes are high and there is not much margin for error.

I honestly think their are only 2 "must" gets in this class as far as individual players go.

LF because he is a stud and we've put all our eggs in that basket

CRob is a special talent at LT

At every other position while there are guys we want badly, we have other recruits who are at or near the same level. Even the LB is more of a "luxury".

Of course we want the best players we can get every year. But as loaded as La is this year along with our OOS recruiting, aside from the two I mentioned above other misses will not "break" out class

Just take what has happened to UT, Auburn, Arkansas, even Florida to a certain extent, you have to keep up, athlete for athlete, size for size, and most importantly have the depth needed to compete. That is why I do not see Ole Miss doing as good as they did last year.

No doubt...and as you said, depth goes a long way in this league. Your team might not regress much from year "A" to year "B", but when you have to keep up with the rest of the league a small step up or drop off goes a long way. Going back to last year, you had probably 6 games that could have gone either way dependent on a handful of plays. We went 3-3...an extra talent here and a capable backup there is the difference in turning that into 5-1 or 1-5 in those games against top competition.
