If she's reasonable, maybe you can talk to her, make her understand she should be on the hook for 50% of it, and would be willing to throw in. The more $$$ you pay to lawyers and advisors and in interest and penalties, the less you can help the children or will to them. Maybe take the angle you're need her help for the betterment of the kids?

Ex Wife will inherit a lot of money. I said "for the sake of the kids" meaning that I want to be in their lives and not flee.
