quote:if they get howard, they will either have to include asik in a sign and trade, or he'd be moved somewhere else after. i dont like the idea of moving him. i love bigs and theyre hard to get your hands on. but asik will be collateral damage in acquiring D12, either directly or indirectly.
would be very hesitant to put Howard and Asik on the court at the same time.

quote:It tells me he is not a guy you build your team around. I agree with that. However, we would not ask him to be that on this team. He would be our third scoring option behind Harden and Parsons and a big upgrade to our defense. I believe that Smith in Houston can have a similar impact as Bosh in Miami (perhaps even a step below this).
what does that tell you?
However, with that said, he is a guy I am ok overpaying for because we have so much cap space and his skill set seems to be tailor-made to our system (at least in my estimation). I would not want to get him on a S&T max contract, but I'd be ok with a FA max contract. And again, my desire to get him, and willingness to "overpay", is more about fit than anything else.

quote:we really dont. we have space for 1 max guy, then were up against the cap and limited in what moves we can make. very soon, we'll have to pay parsons, youre #2 option on this team. he wont be cheap since weve gotten a sweetheart deal on him the first 4 years of service.
we have so much cap space
in a hard cap league,**with guaranteed contracts, you can never just overspend on a guy. max players have to be cornerstones.

Max contract is about what, 16 or 17 a year? So Houston could bring in 2 guys at 7 mil or 3 at 5 or something like that? I know they won't be "gamechangers" per say, but adding important pieces to an already talented roster
Is that more an option? And who is available just below the max level guys?

I live in Houston, and while I don't call myself a Rockets fan, most of my friends do. My buddy said he was listening to sports radio last week and heard Morey say they have room for 2 max contracts this offseason FWIW

But I agree, especially with the luxury tax penalty coming up which will be insane, some teams will be much more frugal.

they limit you so much if youre over the cap now. limited FA acquisitions, severe cap penalties. im not against going over for the right players (and hey-- its not my money anyways), but go ask the NYK about their cap space and desperation when they signed amare stoudamire. hows that working out just 3 years later? 2 more years of salary cap hell for the knickerbockers

When will these guys realize that you have to take a pay cut to be on a winning team sometimes. The Big 3 in Miami are doing it making 2-3 million less a year, but a "big 3" in houston could make that money up since the taxes are already better AND you can make commercials as the "new and improved" big 3

Agreed. I wish they would dump Lin though.

Have you told Josh Smith this? Wishful thinking.

Dirk is going to take a huge paycut after next season, book it.
Also, I would imagine Dwade does something kind of similar to keep the Big 3 intact.

I really don't want any moves where the Rockets give up Parsons and/or Asik. I think both of them have great potential...with Parsons on the verge of being an all star caliber SF. If Asik can keep working on his offense and get to a 15/12/1.5 in production...that is all they need at center.
Maybe they can bring in a solid (not great) PF like Millsap for a decent price (much better than any PF they have now).
The Rockets were the 6th youngest playoff team ever...so just more experience is gonna do wonders. I'm not convinced Howard is the way to go.

excuse me mr lifelong magic fan and dwight hater
1.) I'm not a Dwight Howard, I would make the same observations about his "game" if he was with the Magic. Don't think I came off as bitter or ugly.

how is life after dwight treating you?
2.) Just fine, I have a job I love, vacation coming up, and hot wife with big natural tits, and a beautiful daughter who is about to make 2. How is your life going?

that trip to the finals and perennial playoff appearances must feel like an eternity ago.
3.) It was just last season, and the team made it with Dwight missing the majority of the end of the season.

im sure you and your brethren would take him back in a second if he came crawling.
4.) I'm happy and I think most true fans of Orlando are. The last year and a half was miserable. He burned many bridges if not all with the fans and I think at the end most true fans are glad to be rebuilding. (Hustle and Heart 2.0)

is howard flawed? of course he is.
5.) Who isn't?

but hes got a skill set that is extremely rare on this planet
Jumping?
Look man, lets be honest here, his skill set is based on his athleticism. If he does not have that he is not a very effective player. He has no post moves, poor foot work, no jumper, no hook shot. If you do not see that, then you are kidding yourself. However, when healthy and "MOTIVATED" he is a force in the paint, boards, and on defense. I have never denied that.

I never disagreed with these points in my post.
quote:
and as for the late game free throw problem, there are quite a few bigs that have won many titles, despite their pedestrian free throw percentage. shaq and tim duncan come to mind. once again, its not an ideal situation, but you can make it work.
True, but they were offensively on another planet compared to Howard so it was easier to keep them on the court and take that risk.
Long story short, I appreciate the years with Howard, but am glad to see him gone after how the last year and a half played out. I'm not a hater, just a man with an opinion. No other posters were this seemingly offended or upset by my post.
I never said Howard was not a good player, I just questioned if he is a player you can build your franchise around.

Howard is interested in Golden State now.

A source familiar with Howard's thinking says he plans to test free agency and has considered the Lakers, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta and Golden State.
