Again the biggest problem I had was that Khan wasn't really being Khan until the last 10 minutes of the movie. What made TWOK so great was the chess match. We got none of that in this one which IMO is a waste of the character.
Well, I do think you are right and wrong. Khan was still a chess master, and the other was Admiral Markus. Kirk and the Enterprise were merely pieces for Khan and Marcus to manipulate around the board. It was an incredibly grand game of chess, and Khan is still the chess master.

Oh and my other biggest problem is that it was a Star Wars movie with Star Trek characters
I was never a Trekie, so I've never had a problem with this, but you are completely correct on this point. It is definitely a Star Wars movie. Like I think that 2009's Star Trek should have basically been Star Wars Episode I, yet again this is what Episode II should have been. I mean for frick's sake, its got genetically engineered human beings who are vastly superior in every way to humanity. Seems like Lucas should have done something like this in the prequels instead of the lame storm troopers merely being the clones.

He might want to give them a heads up about V'ger and/or the whale probe, too while he's at it.
It would suck for one or both to swing by and have some other ship by the "only one in the quadrant" this time around.

In fact, this latest movie is more action packed than any of the Star Wars prequels.
And its good action. I never thought for a second that it was choreographed. That's all I can help but think in the prequel duels. As Plinkett puts it: LINK

Roddenberry and his wife (Majel Barrett [Nurse Chapel {liked the nod to her in STID}]) are no longer with us, but I think they would BOTH be pleased with Abrams' two offerings thusfar.
Honestly, I don't think they would. I really liked this film, my favorite of the year so far, but kinda like Tolkein and how LOTR was adapted, I get the feeling Roddenberry would hate Abrams franchise.
And TNG was great and I think Roddenbury would be happy with those... until the movies were made at least.

Which revelation is worse: Khan's super blood or mitechlorians?
Khan's super blood doesn't change the nature of the Star Trek universe. Midiclorians change absolutely everything you were told in the first three films though. Khan's blood is a plot device, while Midiclorians is a bullshite explanation for the entire fiber of the series that never needed to be explained anyway.

Alright Ace, not sure if you have done it in a previous post but if you would please lay out for all of us the ideal casting, plot line and original show elements that would be in your ideal Trek movie.
Feel free to make your own thread or link a previous one. I just want to know what you really wanted to see.

I'm not certain this would have a wide audience. I'm afraid it would not be received in the spirit in which it is intended.

The thing about this movie that stood out the most to me was that Spock sounds a lot like Bill Franquez.

Nobody in here is bitching about someone using the wrong dialect of klingon or some dipshit stuff like that, but there are real problems with this film at a fundamental level.
No not really.
There were places that I had some issues...but they were minor...(Spock screaming was dumb for instance)...if you found fundamental flaws in the film..it's because you were looking for them.
But what would I know...simply a fan of Star Trek here.

Sorry to bump, but my god this movie sucked and I was grinding my teeth in ban land, wanting to post.
I saw it the day it came out. It was scatterbrained and disjointed. It spent way too much time on the interpersonal relationships between the characters (it's sci fi. who gives a ahit?). You all patted him on the back and said he was brilliant when he used perhaps the most hackneyed plot device of all time, "time travel," and now you're seeing the lame result. Dude will be able to make 10 more of these, simply feeding us the Star Trek canon all over again, differently flavored and disorganized, because he "changed the time line." They crammed 4 movies worth of regurgitated previous plot references into one movie, and they kept distracting from the main plot. Hence, "scatterbrained."
Completely agree that Khan wasn't Khan until the last few minutes of the movie. In fact, the only characters who were enjoyable were Scotty and Bones. Khan had enormous potential, but they wasted it. The romance between Spock and Uhuru and the friendship-establishing dialog between Kirk and Spock were completely unnecessary and got in the way of what is supposed to be an action movie.
This movie has all the hallmarks of too many self-loving "geniuses" all wanting to add their own dipshit flair to the movie.
Expect the exact same with the Star Wars movies.

Saw it yesterday. Good movie. On par with the first which outside of TWOK is the best in the franchise.
I thought Khan was done well. I liked the sympathetic nod to his character.

Some fun scenes but it tried too hard. Too dramatic, too fast.
I was exhausted before the end.

AceMidnight's partner in crime in bashing the new Star Trek franchise???
Your points are somewhat fair but I still disagree.

I'm just really disappointed. I trusted that Abrams was the fresh-thinking visionary that he was hyped to be after ST. He's not, and I don't have confidence in the future.
Of course, another explanation could be that he put this one on autopilot once he got the SW franchise, and had already begun to dedicate all of his time to that. We can only hope.

I thought this one was great, though. It had its flaws, as has been discussed, but overall, I really enjoyed it.
