If you didn't already believe LeBron was the best player in the league before last year's finals then you are too sports ignorant to even begin arguing with.
No one actually believes that.

don't forget about Chauncey Billups.

I don't think it's all that clear that Kevin Durant is #2. LeBron James is #1, obviously, and I think we're pulling from Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant for 2-4. One of the two OKC stars is top-3 material, but I don't know which.

SPOILER
It's Durant

I guess that's why not having Westbrook ruined them in the playoffs.
Granted, we haven't seen what OKC looks like with Westbrook and without Durant. Maybe Westbrook would look worse? I dunno. That OKC offense just doesn't look like it's run by a top-3 guy without Westbrook.

going against the best defense in the league when the only good point guard on your roster, yeah you're going to struggle to create shots for everyone.

You aren't a top 3 offense when Serge Ibaka, Reggie Jackson and Derek Fisher combine for more than half of your field goal attempts.

Did you watch the Spurs/Warriors game tonight? I'm gonna assume you didn't.
Tony Parker played like shite all game. He went 3/16. But in the waning minutes of the game, he hit two CLUTCH threes that basically sealed the game and the series. Even though he played like shite, he put the team on his back when it mattered and carried them. It's that quality that we have yet to see from Chris Paul, and it's why I would rather have Tony Parker on my team, as of now.

I would rather build my team around Paul or Westbrook, but I would rather have Parker on my championship-contending team, if that makes any sense.
I think Parker can lead a good team better than anybody, but Paul/Westbrook would be better at carrying a not so good team.

You can definitely argue for alot of guys. I'd take Westbrook third though probably. Carmelo just a hair behind.

1. Lebron James
2. Kevin Durant
3. Lebron James
4. Lebron James
Anyone I am missing?

quote:So you think that made shots = clutch? What if he happened to miss the shots? Does that mean he isn't clutch? Why let results trump process? Sometimes shots fall and sometimes they don't. But let's not pretend that any particular made shot is indicative of anything other than the shot went in, especially when looking at one game.

Paul shot 53% in the playoffs in the clutch last season. Paul shot 50% in the clutch in the previous playoffs.
Parker shot 38% in the clutch in last year's playoffs. Parker shot 31% in the clutch in the previous playoffs.

Why does this board think points count more in the last few minutes of a game?
Anyway, my amateur opinion:
1. Lebron, obviously.
2. Kevin Durant - people would be in awe of his MVP season this year if Lebron James didn't exist.
3. Chris Paul
After these 3, it gets hazy for me. Kobe was incredible this season; Dwight Howard who was a candidate for #2 is just not the same guy. Marc Gasol is the best center in basketball right now, a legit great player on both ends of the court. Westbrook and Rose are fair selections, Melo is an absolute black hole but when he's shooting well his offensive output is unmatched. Tony Parker gets overlooked for being on a great team, perhaps unfairly, but he's not a top 3 point guard, much less overall player, in my mind.
Only the top 2 are definite, IMO. I could be talked into a few guys at 3, but I would go with Paul.

Marc Gasol has my vote, like you said..he's great on both ends of the court

But man, the MSB overrates this guy more than any other player I can think of. He averaged 14/8/4 and shot under 50% from the field. Great defensive player. That doesn't get you near 3rd best in the league status.
Dwight Howard obviously not nearly 100% from injury was basically as good as Gasol, at worst. If Dwight comes back at 100% next season, he's better than Gasol by a solid margin.
