What's your definition of an A-list actor as opposed to a B-list actor?

Actors that everyone knows instantly, even people like my dad who don't follow pop culture at all. Like porno, you know one when you see one.

If you have to ask, they aren't A list.

A list actors always get top billing. People refer to their new movie as the new (insert actor's name here) movie rather than by the movie's actual title.

The reason I asked is because people were arguing w/ me in my thread about "Bottle Shock" when I said there were not any A-list actors in it.

If the actor is marketed more than the movie they are starring in.

This might be wrong, but I'd consider the movie Django Unchained (simply because it's the last movie I saw).

I wanted to see Django because of Waltz and DiCaprio. Foxx was a nice addition to the cast.

Waltz and DiCaprio, A-List.

Foxx, B-List.

The general public and the paparazzi don't care about Christoph Waltz. He's not on Dicaprio's level.

Are we calling how much the media cares about their personal lives a criterion for defining A-List? Because I could care less about that. I call A-List who I want to see entertain me.

I guess I consider Waltz a far better actor than Foxx, but I'm just a shmuck.

I do too, but I don't consider him A-list.
A-listers are always shoved in your face, a la Foxx.

Ruffalo, Hardy, and Fassbender are some of my favorite actors, but I know they aren't A-list. A-list pretty much means they'll demand top dollar for whatever film they are in because studios know their name will sell the movie itself.

DDL is just the best, but I still wouldn't put him in that category.
