I am a huge fan of Pale Ales and IPAs. I had a field day in Portland last September. I think the Craft Beer Industry as a whole is just following the trend. Lately, Barrel Aged Beers are becoming more popular. Who is to say in the next year or two that Weissbier or Saisons are the craze? I've been on a Weissbier kick for some reason the past year. Nothing better to me than an Ayinger Ur-Weisse or a Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier Dunkel.

You can see the Hops Arms Race but I don't necessarily think it's a bad thing. I like how American Craft Brewers are pushing the envelope. Sierra Nevada rejected the notion that no one wanted a hoppy bitter beer and launched a craze. Craft Brewing is easily accessible for all of these days (home brewing) so I think that everyone is trying to find the next "pale ale" per se.

So will this guy write about the Malt Bombs like Parabola, Ten Fiddy, etc that are too much? Or the Sours like Consecration, FunkMetal, etc that are "undrinkable"? Or the Bourbon barrel stuff that I personally don't care for and are undrinkable to me but that others love? Sounds like an Anti-maven to me. St. Arnold warned of these heretics ascending from the depths.

Holy shitballs batman. One of the biggest hurdles commoners have in their journey towards mavenism is the maven vocabulary. Maven speak is pretty fricking intimidating. Especially for unilingual simpletons such as myself.

the first time I tried SN Pale Ale, I thought it was the most disgusting thing ever, and made me quit trying new beers for awhile

See...I was the opposite. SN Pale Ale was the first craft beer other than Abita Amber I had ever tried...Summer of 2001 while still in college. I was in North Carolina and some bad arse distance runner who lived in the mountains up there introduced me to it.

Immediately fell in love, and since I was still under 21, had to ask friends to go certain stores back home in Louisiana to buy it for me. Back then, even SN Pale Ale wasn't available at seemingly every grocery store like it is now. Don't recall ever seeing it in gas stations 10 years ago.

You need to blame the Germans, not the mavens.

Off topic, but not really...

Are you coming to the race Saturday? Got a couple homebrews I'm bringing. An IPA and a wit.

Bummer. Could have brought up some stuff for the BXN. I'll be up there tomorrow and camping all weekend.

the plan is to get back to running more trails this year, so hopefully I'll be able to make it down your way for some runs, and possibly run your race next spring

Awesome. Any chance you'll be at Cajun Coyote in Ville Platte in December? I'll have a huge role putting that one on as well.

Oh, doing a race at Lake Kincaid on June 22nd as well. Might be too soon for you to get away post-baby though.

From the first time I had an over-hopped beer through this day I LOVE me some hoppy beer. I just love that taste. That's why I'm anxiously awaiting the first shipment of Hoptimum (which I like to call Hoptimium after I've consumed 2 or 3).

I might be able to make it down for that. My parents live about a mile from Kincaid lake. I've ran all of those trails and have always wanted to have trail races out there.
