Tax is just like sales tax on anything else you buy, it is calculated at the rate for the parish you live in regardless of where you buy at, and as stated earlier if you are trading in a vehicle, you get to reduce your taxable amount by the trade in price...IE

$30,000 negotiated sales price of new vehicle

$10,000 dollar trade in

then you would pay your parish rate on the difference of $20,000

in Ascension it is 8.5% so tax would be $1,700

Title should be negligible and around $200

As an aside, some will or wont list dealer fees when negotiating.

I'm negotiating right now online for a Mazda, and am having little luck.

This isn't completely true. It might be for a vehicle, but not for other goods. If I go to Best Buy on the Northshore, they won't ask me what parish I live in to charge me that parishes sales tax. I will get charged St Tammany Parish Tax
